WHAT IS “COLOR DEEPENING AGENT” ?
Color deepening agent, a.k.a., color enhancer is applied to dark colored, mostly black colored polyester
fabric to give it deepness and vividness. For black polyester fabrics, the consumers require the blackest color with more vividness,
which is so-called “jet black” in some countries.
Such requirement cannot be achieved by using more dyestuffs in polyester dyeing process because the
disperse dyes become saturated in certain dose level. In other words, the color deepness or vividness is
no more improved even if dyeing with more dyestuffs in certain saturated dose level.
Since the disperse dyestuffs for polyester dyeing cannot have jet black color or indeed vivid color due to
its characteristics, color deepening finish is the most favorable way to practically obtain the blackest color.
By forming fine irregularities with a resin and/or a silicone film of low refractive index on the surface of polyester fiber, it reduces the specular reflection of light and diffusely reflects it to produce dark color.
MECHANISM OF
“COLOR DEEPENING AGENT”
By treating the surface of the fabric with a color deepening agent, it reduces the
specular reflection of light and diffusely reflects it to produce darker color. The
effectiveness of this mechanism can be provided for the dark-colored cotton
fabrics; but is especially maximized for black colored polyester fabrics.
The following methods can be used to produce the darker color, particularly for
black-colored polyester woven.
① Giving slight roughness on the fabric surface. (Figure 1)
② Making lower refractive index film on the fabric surface, so as to reflect or
scatter the light. Accordingly, the color depth is increased as the fabric selectively
absorbs the light. (Figure 2)
